Product Overview

Microbial Humic Granular Fertilizer combines two things that are usually bought and applied separately: a humic acid granule and a live bacterial inoculant. The leonardite granule is coated with Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus megaterium, each guaranteed at 0.5 × 10⁸ CFU/g minimum.

The logic is that each component makes the other work better. Humic acid is a carbon source and a protective matrix — it gives the bacteria something to feed on and somewhere to survive the journey from the bag to the root zone. Bacillus, in turn, is a phosphate solubiliser and a root coloniser, so it mobilises nutrients the humic fraction is holding. Applied together, survival rates are better than either applied alone into hostile soil.

Both strains are spore-forming Bacilli, which is a practical decision rather than a marketing one. Spores tolerate drying, heat and UV far better than vegetative cells, which means the product survives storage, transport and a day in the sun on the back of a truck — the reason many liquid and non-spore inoculant products disappoint in the field.

Spore-forming Bacilli that actually survive

Both strains form spores, which tolerate drying, temperature and UV. Non-spore-forming inoculants frequently die between the factory and the root zone — this is the most common reason a bio-product ‘does nothing’.

Humic acid protects the inoculant

The leonardite matrix is a carbon source and a physical refuge. Bacteria introduced into soil with a carrier establish more reliably than bacteria introduced alone.

Guaranteed count on the COA

≥0.5 × 10⁸ CFU/g for each strain, tested per batch and stated on the certificate — not a generic ‘contains beneficial bacteria’ claim.

Phosphate solubilisation

Bacillus megaterium is a well-documented phosphate solubiliser, releasing phosphorus locked up in the soil. Useful where total P is adequate but availability is not.

40% humic acid and 60% organic matter

The carrier is not an inert filler — it carries 40% minimum humic acid and 60% minimum organic matter, so the base does real soil work of its own.

Form & Solubility

Form: black 2–4 mm granules carrying a bacterial coating. Visually similar to our standard humic granule; the inoculant is applied as a coating after granulation.

Viability — handle accordingly: this is a live product. The Bacilli are spore-forming and robust, but they are still organisms. Do not store above 40 °C, do not leave in direct sun, and do not blend with high-salt fertiliser immediately before application. Those are the three things that reliably kill the count.

In water: the granule is insoluble. Do not attempt to dissolve it for fertigation — the carrier will settle and the product is not designed for that route.

Compatibility: generally compatible with organic and organic-mineral fertilizers and with most granular NPK at moderate inclusion. Avoid direct, prolonged contact with high-analysis soluble salts before application, and avoid tank-mixing with bactericides or copper-based products.

Honest note: this is a live biological product and it will not behave like a chemical input — results depend on storage, placement and soil conditions, and they are less predictable than a soluble nutrient. It performs best in the root zone of a growing crop, not broadcast onto bare ground and forgotten. If you need a guaranteed, immediate nutrient response, use a soluble fertiliser instead; use this to build soil biology over a season.

All five grades come from the same leonardite seam and carry the same heavy-metal declaration (Pb, As, Hg, Cd, Cr all below detection, GB 18877). They differ in particle form and where they fit in your process — not in origin.

Storage: **This is a live product and storage affects the count.** Store in a cool, dry, ventilated place away from direct sunlight. Keep below 40 °C — a container left in the sun in a hot climate will seriously reduce viable counts. Keep bags sealed until use and off bare concrete. Under cool, dry conditions the spore-forming Bacilli remain viable for 12 months or more, but the count declines with time and temperature, so we recommend using within one season of purchase for best results. Shelf life: 12 months in original, unopened packaging stored as above.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do the bacteria stay viable?

Under cool, dry storage below 40 °C, the spore-forming Bacilli remain viable for 12 months or more, which is why we state a 12-month shelf life. The count does decline with time and temperature, so use within one season for best results. Heat is the main enemy — a container left in direct sun in a hot climate will do more damage in a week than a year of correct storage.

Can I blend this with chemical fertilizer?

Generally yes at moderate inclusion with granular NPK — this is a common practice. Avoid direct, prolonged contact with high-analysis soluble salts, particularly potassium chloride, before application, as osmotic stress will reduce the count. Blend close to the time of application rather than storing the mixture for months. If in doubt, send us your formulation and we will advise.

Can I mix it with fungicides or bactericides?

No. Bactericides and copper-based fungicides will kill the inoculant, and many systemic fungicides will suppress it. If a treatment is necessary, separate the applications in time rather than combining them. This applies to seed treatments too — treated seed will carry a bactericidal coating.

What is the difference between the two Bacillus strains?

Bacillus subtilis is primarily a root coloniser and a producer of growth-promoting metabolites; it competes against soil-borne pathogens around the root. Bacillus megaterium is best known as a phosphate solubiliser, releasing phosphorus that is locked in the soil. They do different jobs, which is why both are included rather than a single strain at double the rate.

Why use a humic carrier instead of peat or inert material?

The leonardite granule is not inert. It feeds the bacteria, buffers them against pH and moisture shock, and does soil work in its own right at 40% humic acid and 60% organic matter. An inert carrier delivers the organism and nothing else; this delivers the organism plus a genuine soil amendment.

Is this registered for organic use?

The humic carrier is unprocessed leonardite and both Bacillus strains are commonly permitted inputs, but certification is granted to your finished product by your own certifier, not to our raw material. Submit our TDS, MSDS and COA to them for review. We supply these with every enquiry.
