Product Overview
Insoluble Humic Acid Granule is leonardite powder formed into uniform 2–4 mm round granules on a disc granulator. It is the grade to choose when the material has to be spread by machine or blended with granular fertiliser, and when a fine powder would cause dust, segregation or handling problems.
Two practical problems drive customers to this grade. The first is segregation — a fine humic powder blended into granular NPK separates out during transport and sits in the bottom of the bag, so the farmer applies an uneven product. A granule matched to the 2–4 mm band stays where it was blended. The second is dust — powder generates a visible cloud at the spreader and losses to wind, neither of which a granule does.
The trade-off is straightforward: granulation adds a process step and the binder adds a little inert material, so humic acid sits at 40% minimum rather than the 60% of our raw crystal. You are buying handling behaviour, not peak analysis.
Insoluble Humic Acid Granule is the workhorse of the insoluble range — the grade most often ordered in full containers for bulk blending and direct broadcasting.

Size-matched to granular NPK — no segregation
At 2–4 mm the granule sits in the same size band as standard MAP, DAP and urea prills. It stays distributed through blending, transport and spreading, so the analysis the farmer sees on the bag is the analysis that reaches the field.
Genuinely dust-free
Round granules produce no dust cloud at the spreader. That means no product lost to wind, no operator exposure complaint, and no dark film over everything in the shed.
Spreads accurately with standard equipment
The uniform round shape flows consistently through a spinner or pneumatic spreader, giving an even spread pattern. A powder of the same analysis would not deliver the same distribution.
Handles the whole logistics chain
Granules survive drum blending, conveyor transfer, bagging and palletising without breaking down into fines, so what leaves the factory is what arrives.
60% organic matter alongside the humic fraction
Beyond the 40% humic acid, the material carries 60% minimum organic matter — a real contribution to soil organic carbon, not a trace addition.
Neutral pH suits most soils
At pH 5.0–7.0 this grade is safe across the majority of agricultural ground, unlike our acidic crystal grade which is a specialist choice for alkaline conditions.

Form: uniform black round granules, 2–4 mm, produced on a disc granulator with a small amount of binder. Round, dense, matte surface, essentially dust-free.
In water: insoluble. The granule takes up moisture and slowly slakes but does not dissolve. Not for fertigation, drip lines or liquid fertiliser tanks — it will block filters and emitters.
Crush strength: adequate for normal handling — blending, conveying, bagging, spreading. It is not a high-hardness prill; if the material has to survive aggressive mechanical handling or be blended with urea in a rough drum, look at our Prills grade instead, which is built for exactly that.
In the blender: where this grade belongs. It matches granular NPK in size and density closely enough that segregation is not a practical problem on a standard blend line.

All five grades come from the same leonardite seam and carry the same heavy-metal declaration (Pb, As, Hg, Cd, Cr all below detection, GB 18877). They differ in particle form and where they fit in your process — not in origin.

Storage: Store under cover, on pallets, in a dry ventilated place. The granular form is stable and does not cake under normal warehouse conditions. The risk with any granule is moisture: sustained wetting will soften and consolidate them into a mass. That does not destroy the humic acid but it makes the material impossible to spread. Keep it dry and it handles for years. Shelf life: 24 months in original, unopened packaging.

Bulk blending plant, Brazil
Blends 2–4 mm granule at 10% into NPK formulations for the cerrado market. Switched from a fine humic powder after repeated segregation complaints — the powder settled to the bottom of the bag during transport, so the last of the bag was almost pure humic and the first almost none. The size-matched granule ended the complaint entirely.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the humic acid only 40% when the powder is 60%?
Granulation requires a binder and the process adds a small amount of inert material, so the percentage comes down from the raw 60%. You are not losing humic substance per tonne of applied product in a way that matters for a soil programme — you are trading a few percentage points of analysis for handling behaviour that often matters more. If peak analysis is your buying criterion and you do not need granules, buy the powder or the crystal.
Will it break down into powder in the bag?
Not under normal handling. The disc granulation process produces a granule with adequate crush strength for blending, bagging, palletising and spreading. Excessive fines usually point to overly aggressive handling rather than a weak granule — if you are running a particularly rough line, tell us and we will supply the higher-hardness Prills grade instead.
Can I blend it with urea?
Yes, and it is a common combination. Urea is hygroscopic and will draw moisture, so blend close to the time of application rather than storing a urea-humic blend for months. Where the blend has to be stored or handled roughly, the Prills grade holds up better.
Is this product water soluble?
No. Like all grades in the insoluble range, it is milled and granulated leonardite with no chemical solubilisation. It releases into the soil over time rather than dissolving on contact. For a soluble product, see our potassium humate or potassium fulvate ranges.
What is the difference between this and the Prills grade?
Both are 2–4 mm round granules at 40% humic acid. Prills are produced by spray granulation, which gives a far harder, denser, lower-moisture particle (5% maximum moisture against 30%) and dramatically better crush strength. If the material has to survive aggressive mechanical handling or long storage, Prills are worth the premium. For standard blending and spreading, this granule is the more economical choice.
