Mineral Source Potassium Fulvate Type II is extracted from leonardite, a young oxidized lignite rich in humic substances. It occupies a different point on the extraction spectrum from our Type I line: higher total humic acid (55% min), moderate fulvic acid (30% min), and a more accessible price per tonne. Same mine. Different balance.
Mineral Source Potassium Fulvate Flakes II is the flake form of our Type II line — 2–3 mm shiny black flakes built for the same liquid-fertilizer and water-run applications as Type I Flakes, but at a different price point because the extraction pulls more humic acid (55% min) and less fulvic acid (30% min) from the same leonardite.
What does that mean in practice? If your formulation targets soil structure improvement, cation exchange capacity (CEC) building, or organic-matter enrichment in soil conditioners, Type II delivers more humic acid per dollar spent. The trade-off is straightforward: you get less of the fast-acting fulvic fraction (which drives quick nutrient uptake and chelation) in exchange for a lower cost base and a heavier humic load that pays off over a growing season.
These flakes are 99% water-soluble, dissolve with agitation, and carry near-zero dust — identical handling characteristics to Type I Flakes I. The difference is on the assay sheet and the invoice, not on the production floor.

Full solubility means nothing left to filter out of your stock tank. Agitate while charging and you get a clear solution in 5–10 minutes — same protocol as Type I.

Form & Solubility
Form: black shiny potassium fulvate flakes, 2–3 mm, free-flowing.
In water: 99% soluble. Like all flake-form products, these need moving water to dissolve efficiently — they won’t disappear in still water. Charge them into a running stream or keep a stirrer going, and they go fully into solution. Plan on 5–10 minutes with moderate agitation.
Dust: minimal. The 2–3 mm flake mass keeps airborne particles to a level where operators can work without respirators in well-ventilated areas.
In the blend: stable. Low surface area means less moisture pickup during storage compared to powder grades.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry, ventilated place. Reseal opened bags. Flake form is less hygroscopic than powder but will absorb moisture in humid conditions over time. Shelf life: 2 years in unopened original packaging.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Type I and Type II?
Same leonardite source, same factory, different extraction balance. Type I pulls more fulvic acid (55% min) — ideal when you need fast chelation, quick uptake response, or high fulvic content on the label. Type II pulls more humic acid (55% min) — better value when your goal is soil conditioning, CEC improvement, or organic matter buildup, and you want to hold down raw-material cost. Pick by what your formula needs, not by guessing.
Can I substitute Type II directly for Type I?
Chemically, not one-to-one — the fulvic content is almost half (30% vs 55%). If your formula’s performance depends on that fulvic fraction (e.g., a foliar spray where rapid uptake matters), you may need to adjust the inclusion rate or blend in a fulvic concentrate. For soil conditioners, bulk blends, and general-purpose liquid feeds, Type II often drops in with minor or zero reformulation.
Is the heavy-metal profile the same as Type I?
Yes. Same raw material source, same refining route. All heavy metals test as not detected (Pb, As, Hg, Cd, Cr below detection limits per GB18877-2009).
Why is the K₂O only 10% when Type I has 12%?
The extraction that maximizes humic acid leaves slightly less exchangeable potassium in the final product. If you need the extra 2% K₂O, look at our Sodium-Free Type II (15% K₂O min) or supplement with KCl/MOP in your blend.
